A new way to search Newgrounds

Posted by Snake-Arsenic Nov. 27, 2008 @ 10:26 AM EST

These plug-ins have been rewritten to work in IE7+

I've made some plug-ins that will place various Newgrounds search engines into the search bars of Firefox 2+ and in theory, Internet Explorer 7(let me know how it goes!).

Now there's no excuse not to use the search bar!

This also means an added bonus for Firefox 3.0+ users as you can assign search keywords to use in the address bar so to search the bbs for penicorn you can type ngb penicorn porn.

Maybe you want flash? How about ngf pico? Or ngaa Stamper for all his glorious music.

Here are all my keywords in case you have trouble thinking up your own:
nb = NG BBS Topic Search
nba = NG BBS Author search

nf = NG BBS Flash Portal Search
nfa = NG BBS Flash Author search

na =NG BBS Audio Portal Search
naa = NG BBS Audio Author search

These are OpenSearch plug-ins so any browser that can automatically detect and use them will indicate it and links have been provided if they don't.
Have fun and get the plug-ins here!

De-modder and Sup. Commander GM Scripts

Posted by Snake-Arsenic Sep. 19, 2008 @ 10:48 PM EDT

I made some more Greasemonkey scripts and here they are!

De-modder:

This script de-mods All the Mods on Newgrounds by giving them their regular level icons with the appropriate auras. It even works on their user page!

Note: If you order this script before the Mod/God Me script you can be the only mod on Newgrounds.

Sup. Commander:

This changes your Blam/Protect Status to Sup. Commander. By combining this with some of my other scripts you can have the ultimate user page!

I've also updated the current Mod/God Me script to change the level number when in God mode.

To see all my scripts go to http://userscripts.org/users/51807/scr ipts. Some of these scripts require Firefox 3.0 or above.

Don't forget to set the Sup. Commander, Mod/God Me and Deity whistle scripts via User Script Commands in the Greasemonkey menu. These menu items only appear while browsing the newgrounds web site.

Newgrounds Classic 2 code freeze

Posted by Snake-Arsenic Jul. 15, 2008 @ 3:26 AM EDT

Now that version 2.025 is out I'm officially announcing a code freeze, meaning I will only be fixing bugs that are reported or making add-ons compatible if someone contacts me.

The final features are as follows:
1. Three toolbars, Default, Alternate and Old Classic.
2. Optional animated sunbeams, turned off by default to avoid complications with people who have motion sickness.
3. Optional compact menubar, which replaces the NG logo with tank_sm, this was implemented after a workaround of a bug where the NG tank would not appear on default toolbar settings.

These features are activated via the userChrome.css file and a userChrome generator is available on the official Newgrounds Classic website.

Also I found out today that most of the people who have this theme are not using it and I'm curious as to the reason why and if it is because of add-on incompatibility or bugs then please get in touch with me and I'll get to work on fixing that.

The picture below shows the three toolbars that you can customise your theme with.

NG Greasemonkey Scripts

Posted by Snake-Arsenic May. 3, 2008 @ 3:36 AM EDT

Ever wanted to be a mod, a god, or just wanted ultra random smilies?

I've made a few greasemonkey scripts that can help you out.

EDIT:
The Mod All and God All have been updated to prevent console errors and the Mod All script now works on userpages.

To update, simply install them again.

Newgrounds Font Link + Install Guide

Posted by Snake-Arsenic Jan. 11, 2008 @ 4:43 PM EST

Obviously, you need the font before you can install it:
TekutekuAL, Regular (Newgrounds Font)
At the top you will see the title written in the font. The link to the font is in right-side the gray line directly underneath. You can either download it in a zip file or download the font directly.

Not everyone knows how to install fonts so here's a nifty guide for Windows, Linux and Mac.
Source - If you find something good, use it.

Installing a PC font
How to install a font under Windows ?
Unzip the files you have downloaded.

Details : Click on the "Download" button, save the zip somewhere on your hard disk, go to the place where it is saved, double-click on the zip to open it, then either click on "Extraxt all files" or drag and drop the files elsewhere from the zip window (hold down the CTRL key to select several files at once)
For the 20th century versions of Windows you must install an unzip tool first.

Under Windows Vista :
Select the font files (.ttf, .otf or .fon) then Right-click > Install

Under any version of Windows :
Place the font files (.ttf, .otf or .fon) into the Fonts folder, usually C:\Windows\Fonts or C:\WINNT\Fonts
(can be reached as well by the Start Menu > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Fonts).

Note that with the internal unzip tool of Windows (unlike Winzip), you cannot install a font by a simple drag and drop of the .ttf from the zip window to the Fonts window. You must first drag and drop it anywhere (for example on the desktop) then in the Fonts folder.

You can also go through : File > Install a new font... in the Fonts folder menu then browse the fonts, instead of drag and drop the fonts into the window. Although this method is laborious, it would seem that it functions better in certain cases.

Tip : if you punctually need a font, you don't need to install it. Just double-click on the .ttf file, and while the preview window is opened you can use it in most of the programs you'll launch (apart from a few exceptions like OpenOffice).

How to install a font under Mac OS ?
Mac OS X recognizes TrueType and OpenType fonts (.ttf and .otf) but not the PC bitmap fonts (.fon).
Files are compressed, you may need an utility like Stuffit Expander.

Under Mac OS X :
Put the files into /Library/Fonts (for all users),
or into /Users/Your_username/Library/Fonts (for you only).
If your OS includes the Font Book, you can as well double-click on a font file, then a preview pops with an "Install font" button.

-Under Mac OS 9 or less :
The old Mac fonts are not supported anymore at dafont. First, you have to convert the font files (.ttf or .otf) you have downloaded.
Then drag the fonts suitcases into the System folder. The system will propose you to add them to the Fonts folder.

How to install a font under Linux ?
Copy the font files (.ttf or .otf) to fonts:/// in the File manager.

Animated NG Firefox Theme!

Posted by Snake-Arsenic Nov. 7, 2007 @ 4:23 AM EST

Check the latest news on NG Classic Development!
The TekutekuAL font is used in this theme, download it for an extra touch of Newgrounds!

NG Classic just got nominated!!!
Tom Fulp answered my PM asking for permission in using Newgrounds images for NG Classic so I've nominated the theme for a public appearance on the Mozilla Addons website.
During this process NG Classic will be reviewed for errors and warnings and after that hopefully it will pass.
The other criteria is how useful this theme will be for the wider web. That's could make it harder to get through but I'm still confident that it will pass because of all the other site specific themes that are now public.

Newgrounds Classic Ver 1.0:
This is likely the final version of this theme and fixes many issues that were in 0.92 ( not that anyone complained about them ).
I've also completed the TekutekuAL font integration and Mac users should notice it now.
Special thanks go to The-Prince-Of-Idiots for Mac testing.
Newgrounds Classic Ver 0.92:
I've fixed up some bugs in the preferences windows and integrated the TekutekuAL Regular font(degrades nicely to Arial or sans-serif if you don't have it). TekutekuAL Regular is the(if not, most similar) Newgrounds Title Font. Download TekutekuAL Regular here.

Anyone can download it now, as always PM me with any bugs.
Changed the screenshot below to better reflect how it looks now.

Newgrounds Classic Ver 0.91:
I've added new icons for full-screen users and they're based on SVG.
For those of you who don't know what SVG stands for, it's Scalable Vector Graphics, vector graphics are what the awesome drawing tools use that allow for small file sizes in Flash!

I hope to soon switch completely over to SVG as it is seems the best way to make reusable images with unlimited resizing capabilities.

Unfortunately as the theme still resides in the sandbox there are no automatic updates so re-download it now!

Oh and one more thing,

Original Post
I've created a Newgrounds inspired firefox theme with animated sunbeams and a cool NG Tank that lines you up when a web-page page finishes loading.

It's currently in the mozilla sandbox as I need all the reviews I can get to make it public so create an account if you haven't already and go to http://devlog.snakehole.net/ngclassic/

It's a large theme because of the animations and if this one goes public there will be more Newground related themes coming soon.

To get Firefox, go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Also post your bug reports here for the fastest response.

Girl Commits Suicide over Photoshop

Posted by Snake-Arsenic Jul. 19, 2007 @ 4:39 PM EDT

Photoshop threads are destroying the creative outlets of users of programs like Gimp and Paint Shop Pro throughout the world, and their lives.

"I used to like changing pictures, but now I never get the chance." - Sheila Tequila

This quote was from a Paint Shop Pro user and professional editor's suicide note. She recently lost her job at a popular fashion magazine because they weren't made in Photoshop, here is their reply.

"If it's not Photoshop, it's inadmissible as a picture."

Will you stand for this? To help you decide, below is the last picture modified by Sheila Tequila, coincidentally fitting as she slit her wrists and was found in a massive pool of blood.

To save lives image threads must be available to all programs.
What are your thought and opinions?
